About the 2016 Country 2 Country 4 Cancer Ride

Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) is very excited to announce an epic European cycling event, in support of the Union for International Cancer Control, to accelerate the fight against cancer and for a better life for cancer patients.

After the great success of the US Coast to Coast for Cancer Ride, employees from BMS in Europe will ride over 4,000 km across United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland to Germany to raise funds for cancer patients globally by supporting the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

In this European edition of the ride starting on 10 September 2016 and lasting 18 days, 75 European BMS team members will be riding in 6 different country teams (see below) and each group will be performing a leg of the ride averaging 450 km in 3 - 4 days.

At the finale of this journey, the riders will hand off the 'baton' to the UICC and BMS team on 27 September in Munich, Germany.

These participants are novice riders, who have committed themselves to 5 months of intensive training to complete their portion of the ride. Some are cancer survivors, others have witnessed the devastating impact of cancer on friends and family. Their miles will help raise funds and support UICC's mission of uniting communities to combat cancer .

Encourage your colleagues, families and friends to donate, as cancer affects us all. Every donation you will make will be matched by BMS, doubling the impact of your generosity.

"It is such a privilege to ride for cancer patients. The event is a true testament to never underestimating the power of the human spirit. When faced with difficulty and adversity, know that you can conquer it and you will." Linda Karrer

"This was my chance to show my support for those battling cancer. Some have fought the battle and won, others have not been so lucky, and others are fighting the battle of their lives. For these people, I will fight through this."  Stefani Cunniungham

Responsible ethic

Cancer is among the leading causes of death worldwide. Each year, there are 14 million new cases and 8.2 million cancer-related deaths worldwide, and these numbers are growing. Within the next two decades, the number of new cancer cases is estimated to rise to 22 million.

Working together, we can save millions of lives.

This is why BMS has chosen to support UICC in its mission to unite the global cancer community and to make sure that cancer is considered as a priority for governments around the world.

Bristol-Myers Squibb is a global biopharmaceutical company whose mission is to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines that help patients prevail over serious diseases.

The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) works to unite the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, to promote greater equity, and to integrate cancer control into the world health and development agenda. UICC is the largest cancer-fighting organisation with over 950 member organisations and 58 partners across 155 countries, representing the world's major cancer societies, ministries of health, research institutes, treatment centres and patient groups.
